AAP Report on crimes against women in UP

A status report on crimes against women in Uttar Pradesh prepared by Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders, Shefali Misra and Hema Badhwar Mehra (party’s Lok Sabha candidates from Sitapur and Badaun constituencies in UP, respectively), has been presented to the AAP national convenor, Arvind Kejriwal. Receiving the report, he condemned the increasing violence against women, calling the situation a “gross neglect of basic human rights.”

Kejriwal asked for a serious review of women’s situation in the country, expressing that, “The mandate to stop violence is a responsibility each one of us now needs to take.” He further added that, “the state has failed in its endeavour to protect women’s rights. It is time that each citizen expresses anguish and anger and lets the law makers and implementers know that violence must stop.”

Saharanpur Riots – UP Police failed to check violence

Aam Aadmi Party(AAP) leader and senior Supreme Court advocate, Mr HS Phoolka issued the following statement on Saharanpur riots on Saturday, July 26, 2014 :

Bill against Communal Violence should be passed by the Parliament at earliest.

The Uttar Pradesh Police and the state government remained mute spectators and failed to save the life and property of innocent citizens in Saharanpur.

The reasons being given by the police for its inaction is that it was outnumbered by the rioters, and the force was not sufficient. This justification is not acceptable at all.  It is a common excuse, given by the police in every riot, to cover up their inaction.

Amit Shah becomes BJP president inspite of facing serious criminal charges

It is not hidden from anyone that Mr Shah is currently out on bail since he faces serious charges of having masterminded the fake encounters of Sohrabuddin Sheikh, his wife Kausar Bi and and an eyewitness in the case, Tulsiram Prajapati. The argument that the appointment of Mr Shah as BJP President is an internal matter of that party, does not hold ground since this development will have multiple implications on the political system of the country.

By appointing Mr Shah as its chief, the BJP has lowered the minimum moral qualification required for leaders to head major political parties in the country. It is difficult to recall any other example in which a leader who faced serious criminal charges including murder, extortion and kidnapping was anointed as chief of a national political party. The AAP views the development as a sad day for democracy.  Read More

Dowry victim Neha succumbs to injuries

Neha's case is a sordid tale of policy apathy, insensitivity and police callousness . She was being tortured by her husband and in-laws (in Indra Park, Sagarpur, West Delhi) but the police chose to turn a blind eye to her repeated complaints resulting into the gruesome incident of her being burnt by her husband and in-laws on January 13, but even this could not move the callous police. Save Our Women

This piece brings out the details of the gory incident of rape & murder in Badayun, UP.

This is the result of a systemic rot. It has happened before –maybe not in this defiant and intrusive way that challenged everything that existed, mocked every law ever made – but it has happened and it will continue to happen unless the caste divide disappears, unless laws change, unless education imparts what it is meant to impart, unless politicians care enough, unless men are sensitised, unless our rural areas begin to permeate into the active conscience of a society consisting of people like us who think that it is made only for us and till as such time as we see all of India as one, without this great divide and understand at a seminal level that this country belongs, in equal measure, to all of its citizens, at all times. BJP goons did not spare women volunteers either

BJP attacks women volunteers of AAP

In a shocking incident yesterday (May 8) in Banaras, BJP goons pelted stones at AAP's women volunteers. The impact of the attack is visible from the image of the left. One of our volunteers was hit by a stone thrown at them and started bleeding from her forehead. A few days ago, a few other volunteers were thrashed mercilesslessly by BJP supporters at Assi Ghat.

Congress Goons attack AAP in Amethi

Congress goons attacked AAP volunteers throughout the day in Amethi, even as Rahul campaigned in that area. What is worse is that when Rahul came across AAP leaders protesting the attack, he just smiled and drove off in his car. Police took AAP volunteers into custody even as Congress supporters openly threatened, attacked & tried to intimidate AAP volunteers, at will! Multiple attacks were carried out. Law enforcement officials of the area remained unreachable. Here are some pictures from yesterday. Read More
